To grandma’s house we go? 

      Samuel and Justus spent three weeks at Grandma’s house this summer.  Sam and Justus, in your own words, tell me how was your trip to grandma’s house? 

         Sam:  Well I like hanging around Uncle Dre’. Our Uncle Dre, he rocks.  He took us everywhere.  We went fishing and we saw some alligators.  Kayven kept throwing rocks at the alligators.  Uncle Dre’ told her to stop before the alligator would had himself a “kids’ meal.”  Later on that day, we ate alligator meat.  It tastes like chicken.  We went crabbing.  We caught big crabs and some little crabs.  Grandma cooked them or was it Uncle Dre’.  I can’t remember.  Well anyway, Uncle Dre’ told Kayven to stop playing with the crabs but she didn’t listen.  Then a crab bites her on the finger.  Kayven screamed and it was loud.  Mommy, Kayven needs a whippen, she doesn’t listen very well.  Anyway, Uncle Dre’ took us to the movies to see Little Bow-Bow’s movie, “Like Mike.”  The movie was so cool.  We played video games and everything.  Uncle Dre’ is the coolest.       

   Justus:  Uncle Andre was okay, but I love Uncle Antwan.  He let us play his play station while he cut our hair.  Mommy, I like the way he cuts our hair, it was so cool.  He cuts our hair better than daddy.  Oh yeah, Uncle Antwan can cook too.  He cooks better than Auntie Tammy.  I liked the little round things he cooked, but I don’t know what it was called.               

       Renee’:  Okay, that’s enough!  What else did you do at grandma house?       

       Sam:  We played with our cousins; John-John, Taylor, Little Antwan, and Kayven.  We went swimming in the backyard and swung on the swing set.  We went to Chuck Cheese and to the park.  

      Justus:  Huh? Let me see, oh I know, I like grandma’s cooking.  She makes the best cheese toast.  Grandma’s cheese toast is better than yours, mommy.                      

      Renee’:  Wait a minute; you guys forgot about Auntie Jackie and Grandpa.   

      Sam:  Oh Auntie Jackie was to busy getting ready to get married.  Our new uncle, Kevin, let us play with his play station since somebody broke ours. 

      Justus:  It wasn’t me.  

      Renee’:  Okay Enough!  What about Grandpa?       

Justus:  Grandpa was the coolest.  He took us to the store and brought us snacks.  You know snacks are very important.

          Renee’:  So, did you guys enjoy yourself at grandma’s house?     

         Justus:  Well, the bible says that you can’t leave your children at the grandparents.  

         Renee’:  Justus, where does it say that in the bible? 

   Justus:  You know, after it says "parents obey your children." J

What is the greatest gift you can give your child? 

            The greatest gift you can your child is your time.  After 911, tomorrow is never promise to you.  Time is so precious. 

            Our family code phrase for trying something new is “let’s go on an adventure.”  Let me tell you!  Samuel and Justus hear that code phrase; they take-off and get ready for what ever new adventure we have planned.

            This summer, Titus and I spent a lot of time and planning inexpensive trips and outing for our family.  We took the boys fishing at a catfish farm and caught three fish.  We camped-out in the backyard.  We take nature walks in our neighborhood and at local community parks.  We swam in our pool.  We turned-off the television and played games.  The goal for this summer was to spend quality time together as a family. 

Titus is teaching Samuel and Justus how to swim.  They are doing a great job.  Samuel is trying to swim backwards.                      

      Children today have a lot of things different things that they have questions about the today’s world.  After the events of September 11, you have to be real and upfront with your children. 

     Samuel and Justus realize that Titus and I are in the Air Force.  They understand that one day, Titus and I will have to go to war.  They know if we don’t come back, that we have gone to be with Jesus. 

Justus is not afraid of jumping off the deep end.   He is a little dare-devil.  We have to keep an eye on this boy.  Justus loves the water.    

       Believe it or not, kids at the age of five and six have a lot of common sense.  They have questions like; who is going to take care of us?  What is war?  Why do you have to go? 

       Spending time talking with our kids reassures them that we love them.  They know that they are gifts from God.  Our children were not mistakes.  Each one was created for God’s ultimate purpose for mankind.  Being parents, our job is to ensure each child fulfills his purpose and completes God’s plan. 

      Spending time with our kids is so precious.  Time is too valuable to waste.  We don’t waste time trying to make money to buy them things.  They don’t want things but our time.  We try to make special moments that will last a lifetime, then buying something you are going to throw-out in a couple of years.  We are blessed to have two wonderful kids.  We thank God for trusting them into our care.  What an awesome task? 

   Justus and Samuel are playing dress-up at the Fayetteville Children’s Museum.  Justus is an Airborne Ranger and Samuel is a cowboy.
